It is only a question of time when markets will be
balanced again
Prof. Dr. Peter Woditsch,
CEO Deutsche Solar AG
Prof. Dr. Peter Woditsch, born on the 25th of March in 1940 in Breslau, studied Chemistry in Erlangen, Germany, from 1960 on. After obtaining his doctorate in 1970 he started his professional career in the R&D department at the Bayer AG.
From 1986, he was responsible for R&D of the entire inorganic division in which operations with silicon had started under his leadership from 1980 onwards. In 1994 he took charge of the solar silicon and engineering ceramics business unit in order to implement the R&D results and became Managing Director of the newly founded Bayer Solar GmbH (Ltd.) in Freiberg.
When Bayer Solar was sold to the SolarWorld AG in 2000, Prof. Dr. Woditsch became CEO of the Deutsche Solar AG and built up the module production as Managing Director of the Solar Factory GmbH. In 2006, the volume of sales of both companies was more than 375 Mio. at a
number of 680 employees. Beside his professional occupations he lectured at the Münster University and is, amongst other charges, head of the board of trustees of the FhG-ISE in Freiberg.
It is only a question of time when markets will be balanced again: Silicon, the workhorse of PV since the seventies until today and in the future, is as abundant as all other metals together on earth. Supply for PV needs a highly pure material which is the bottleneck today and in the near future. There is enough money allocated by the Silicon producers to increase their capacities following the demand.
